Nenagh AFC 'B' 0 - Rearcross U-14's 5

Rearcross U-14’s were on their travels to Nenagh on Saturday morning for an U-14 League game against Nenagh ‘B’ at the Brickfields venue and claimed all three points on a five nil scoreline. The visiting side were fast out of the traps and hit the front with just two minutes gone when good play from Stephen Rochford on the right released Brian Nolan who dispatched with aplomb to the far corner despite the best efforts of the Nenagh custodian. Oran O’Connor broke down the right two minutes later and swung in a fine cross which was turned out at the expense of a corner kick. Rearcross continued to press and Patrick Dawson was through on goal but Nenagh keeper Padraic Hassett was able to make the block. The hosts enjoyed a period of dominance after this and came close when the ball broke from a corner kick on 13 minutes. Oran O’Conner continued to threaten and controlled well before letting fly from the edge of the box, however the Nenagh shot stopper was positioned to get behind the effort. The Rea boys doubled their tally when Stephen Rochford did well to turn the ball in to the danger area where Oran O’Connor was on hand to ram the ball to the top corner from the edge of the six yard box with a left footed rasper. The Brickfields outfit counter attacked and won a corner kick in the process, Sean Malone was alert to clear the ball to safety. It might have been three to the Neill Ryan Joinery sponsored side just before the break after Stephen Rochford attacked on the right and was unlucky to see his low effort whiz inches outside the post. Rearcross took the game to Nenagh right from the kick off in the second half and were denied five minutes in when Patrick Dawson’s shot was well saved on to the cross bar. The away side were quelled again four minutes later after Stephen Rochford’s quick fire effort was blocked on the line. The Nenagh forays in to Rearcross territory were scarce but Paul Nolan shepparded the ball out over the endline on 46 minutes. Rearcross keeper Cathal Kennedy put in a long off the ground clearance as Oran O’Conner paced down the left but the Nenagh rearguard closed in to concede a corner kick. Stephen Rochford stretched it to three nil with fifteen minutes remaining after finding space in the center to rifle his eighteenth of the season to the back of the net. The game was over as a contest after this but there was still time for Patrick Dawson to net a brace, the first coming on 74 minutes after the goal bound strike was deflected somewhat to give the keeper no chance. Patrick Dawson copper fastened the win with four minutes to play thanks to a cracking shot that skimmed the inside of the upright before nestling in the side netting at the far side to give Rearcross a comfortable win in the end. Rearcross will now face Knigh in Rearcross on Tuesday evening in a top of the table clash, kick off time is 7:30PM
